Must I inform you if I own a domestic animal?

Dogs, reptiles and other animals. Some insurers have begun to refuse coverage to owners of certain breeds of dogs or other animals considered aggressive. Our insurers have not issued any precise instructions on this matter. If you have a potentially dangerous animal, it is better if you discuss it with us, because the insured is obliged to inform the insurer of any potential risk.

Is my swimming pool automatically covered by my insurance policy?

No, if you have a swimming pool, make sure that you have the endorsement “outdoor pools, spas, baths, whirlpools and exterior saunas”. It covers, among other things, damage caused by frost.

Are there items that I must insure specifically?

Certain categories of property are subject to maximum reimbursement by the insurer. If the base amount is insufficient, you can complete it with a rider or specific insurance. Below are a few examples:

  • Audio and video media support, software
  • Jewelry, watches and furs
  • Gold or silver items
  • Cards representing sport or artistic personalities
  • Art objects, especially paintings and pictures
  • Collections of coins, medals or stamps
  • Bicycles
  • Animals
  • Boats
  • Trailers
  • Securities
  • Firearms
  • Books, tools and instruments related to professional activities

Must I inform you if I make renovations?

Yes because in order to preserve the full replacement value, you must notify us of any improvement or addition made to a building worth $5,000 or more. Also, if you want to benefit from the discount to homes whose roof is less than 20 years old, you must inform us when you re-roof your home.

Must I inform you if my house is vacant or unoccupied?

When the use of your premises changes, it is essential that you notify us. If your home is vacant for more than 30 days or unoccupied without your intending to return to occupy it, you must obtain a vacancy permit from the insurer. Otherwise, you could have no coverage and no compensation could be paid as the result of any loss.
