All residents of Quebec are required by law to have prescription drug insurance. Find out more about prescripton drug. If you are a Quebec resident, under 65 and a member in good standing of the ACDQ, you cannot register for the public plan offered by RAMQ or register your spouse or dependent children for it. Therefore, you must subscribe to private group insurance.

If you are 65, whether you are still active or not, you have a choice between the RAMQ public plan and private group insurance. It should be noted that the ACDQ plan ends when you are no longer a member in good standing of the ACDQ or retire.
